Special Needs: Hi Linne,
Very sad news. Ruby suddenly became paralyzed and had to be put to sleep. We were devastated. Of course we did everything to prevent back problems...had stairs for her at bedside, didn't let her jump up on furniture, kept her slim and healthy, guarded her back all we could. I don't know what caused it, but she got up one day crying and dragging her back end. Now I know about surgery and the wheelchair and such, but we went to the vet and tried prednisone, pain pills, muscle relaxers to no effect. Ruby was in pain, embarrassed and miserable. Went back to the vet and she called a veterinary neurologist in Sugarland to consult about our taking Ruby there for surgery. Because of the location of her back "break" and the fact that she worsened and worsened even on the prednisone, the neuro doc determined she was not a candidate for surgery. We had to put her to sleep.
We have never had such a loving, sweet dog and were devastated. The vet told us we had done everything we could do for her, including keeping her dry and comfortable. Still...
Thought you would want to know.
Thank you,
Charlene

Description: Meet Ruby, a new addition to the ATDR family! Ruby hails from the valley where she led a miserable life having litter after litter! Life wasn't so good before but those days are gone forever and things should start improving right away! Sadly Ruby is heartworm positive, no one cared enough to give her monthly prevention!
She is enjoying her rest in her new foster home and is getting along great with everyone! She loves being the boss - so she would do well in a house with boys! She prefers being the "big girl on campus". Ruby is a beautiful girl that would love a home of her own. She is independent but loving and humans are her favorite companions.
