This is precious little Darla. We believe she is a Yorkie/Dachshund mix. She came to us from the Rio Grande Valley with a crushed vertebra, badly injured eye and a mangled back leg. She gets around using her leg that is not mangled like a crutch. She’s just happy to be alive. It breaks our hearts to even think what may have happened to her.
ATDR took Darla to our friends at Safari for stem cells, it was determined that she wasn't a candidate, but she did have an amputation so that she can better scoot around without the crushed limb getting in the way! Please help ATDR give Darla a chance at the normal active life she so desperately needs and deserves!
4.23.2020 Darla’s foster mom reports: Darla loves to be outside in her yard. She’s pretty active and the vets who have seen her think she’s 6 years old, not younger as initially thought. She’s not house trained at all because she can’t feel her lower body and doesn’t know when she has the urge to go. Her little messes, luckily, are very small and easy to clean up. She loves everybody, once she knows you’re a friend. She’s a precious little watch dog bruiser and so easy to love in return!
