Say hello to Fiona! This beautiful little mama found herself in a Central Texas shelter, but when ATDR was contacted, we immediately came to her rescue. Sadly when this sweet girl was picked up, no puppies could be found.
Fiona's days of having puppies are now behind her and she's currently receiving the loving care she deserves in a comfortable foster home. Fiona has been on antibiotics under veterinary care since she came to ATDR with an extremely painful infection of the mammary glands called Mastitis that can sometimes happen after having puppies. It also makes the milk toxic to puppies that may drink the milk of a mama dog who has this infection.
In the meantime, when this precious girl has recovered, she will be searching her own forever home and people to love. Fiona should not go to a home with other small animals (i.e., cats, rodents, etc.) because she has a strong prey drive.
3.23.22 Update:
Fiona's foster mom says she is one of the most joyous souls I've ever known. She wakes up with a smile, jumps for joy, and loves on everyone, dogs and people alike!
She loves toys and to chase balls. She loves to snuggle and chase squirrels. If she could do both at the same time, she'd be in doggie heaven. Don't mind that her girlish figure has not yet returned from her final litter of puppies. Hopefully, it will, but she remains a beauty. And oh my goodness, don't walk her without watching for squirrels. She LOVES squirrels and will take off after one without warning. This sweet girl should never be off leash when not in a securely fenced yard. She has eyes for nothing else but the squirrel in her sights. As regards securely fenced yards, she can jump and climb a 4' woven wire or chain link fence. Fortunately, I have two large fenced yards so she's lost her 4' fence privileges, but she is fine in the 6' privacy wooden fenced yard. Even though I keep expecting to find her high up a tree, it's not happened yet!
Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Fiona will receive love, joy and miles of smiles and giggles. She is fully house trained, although as a rescue, she did have a few accidents her first two days in her foster home. Since then, not a single incident. This is not atypical of dogs in new homes, so "Good girl Fiona!"
She really wants to play with other dogs and takes offense at nothing the others do. The others can be annoying, sometimes bullying, but she just smiles and sits or walks away. She loves to snuggle with the other dogs as well. She'll be great as an only dog or with other dogs. She's just happy to be.
