Jasper has certainly come into his own in his time with ATDR. He is full of energy, loves all the other dogs, is almost 100% housetrained, completely crate trained and just a fun loving kind of dog. He knows how to sit up for treats and is currently working on how to take them a little gentler! He understands the concept but just gets so excited when he sees it coming, he can hardly wait! He loves his meals also - he eats with alot of gusto! He has a very affectionate side as well. At night, after a time of snuggling and gentle playing, he is ready to slide under the covers and call it a night. He does not move. He prefers to be touching his humans while he sleeps also. He is not much of an early riser - I usually have to uncover him to let him know it is time to start the day.
Jasper is a great little dog and has no idea he is not a pure bred dachshund. He couldn't care less, nor could his pure bred friends. He will make a great addition to a family!
Update:
Jasper's journey from a quiet, almost insecure dog to a happy, totally awesome little man has been inspiring, to say the least. He plays with all the four legged and two legged critters we have here, has been learning to chase squirrels and never has a cross word for anyone - he truly loves life. He is still working on taking treats more gently and eating his meals a little slower.
Though his coat is still short, we can see the dark part growing in length but it will certainly take some time to catch up with the lighter part that is longer, which is very soft. He loves to be under the covers and loves belly rubs. One of his favorite ways to lay when he is in your lap in on his back, cradled like a baby.
Jasper is completely crate trained and, with some reminders, he has no accidents in the house either. He would make a great dog for a family with or without other pets but I think it would be important for him to have a yard.
