Petey came to us from a shelter after being found dumped in the trash. The reason became apparent as he had what appeared to be a hernia near his colon. An ultrasound reveled what appeared to be both a hernia and a mass in his tiny bladder. Not wanting to risk surgery until he was bigger, he went into foster care until he weighed 5 pounds. You can see how tiny he is from his picture snuggled in a fuzzy slipper!
However, while waiting for his “hernia” surgery, Pistol Pete's condition became emergent when he could not potty at all and he stopped eating and drinking, so he was rushed to emergency surgery! It was very long and delicate procedure, and his problem turned out to be a large cyst surrounding his plumbing, and not a hernia and bladder obstruction as we thought. The wonderful surgeon removed nearly all of the cyst and expects the rest to be absorbed. Immediately after waking, Petey was able to potty like a normal dog for the first time in his 2 months of life! He is recovering and will have one more surgery to remove a remaining cyst which is not causing him any further complications. He is now acting like a perfect, playful little puppy who is very put out to be in a cone of shame and to have his fun curtailed for the next week while his stitches heal. He is being quite a handful. Please consider helping with Petey’s surgery if you can thru our Joan of Ark fund!! He will be available for adoption as soon as he is healed from his final surgery still to come and grown a little more! Perhaps in March.
