Pico must be adopted with his brother, Parker (adopted).
Description: SPONSORSHIP ONLY Pico was sprung from a puppymill in South Texas along with 58 other dogs. He is a perfect gentleman and one look in his eyes tells you he has an old soul. He is good with other dogs and happy and snuggly with his foster mom on his own terms. He was feral and very afraid after his rescue, and in the time since has been learning to be brave and that humans can be trusted and will not hurt him. He loves his foster mom and family and has gotten to know several new people from time to time also. Pico will need a home with another dog companion to bond and play with since that makes him feel the most comfortable and also to continue to show him that humans are fun. He loves to play and chase with other dogs, and can be a little rough and tumble. Sometimes he does not know his own strength. Because of his former puppymill nature, he will need a safe backyard to enjoy supervised outdoor fun in. Given time and patience, once he is used to you he will sometimes come bounding up when you call from the chair, very happy to see you and will leap up in the recliner with gusto. (he does most things with gusto!!) He will nuzzle your hand and beg for pets and behave adorably sweet and a little silly once he begins to trust. He flies in and out the doggie door like a champ and requires one to make him feel secure. He is very good in his crate and will fly into it at meal time as he prefers to eat in it.
Because of his background, Pico will need a very experienced Doxie family experienced with shy or fearful dogs in a calm, quiet home with a yard and no children as he does not care for them and is startled by sudden loud noises and fast movement. Retired or stay at home owners would be great so he can get lots of bonding time. However owners who work are fine too, (his foster mom does!!)....he is happy to nap in his crate where he knows he is safe until somone comes home. He will need a lot of time to adjust to a new home, environment and people as he continues to learn every day that he is safe and sound. His foster mom is so proud of him. He is still working out some of his issues and while he does he will be practing more bravery.
