Description:
Meet Thunder! A very handsome and sweet boy who loves to snuggle next to his person, or on top of them, as the case may be. He is house trained and is accustomed to sleeping in his crate. Thunder follows commands very well and rarely barks (well, maybe at front door sounds, but what dachshund doesn’t?). He is a very low maintenance guy and according to his foster mom and dad is in the process of dropping a little weight. Thunder is a standard sized dachshund who came into rescue weighing in at about 23 lbs. He has now trimmed down to a sleek 20 lbs! Good job Thunder!
Sadly, this precious boy lost his home of seven years because he was not adjusting well to the new baby. Not all dogs are comfortable with kids, and when he became a little growly about the baby’s movements, ATDR was asked to find him a new home. He has done wonderfully in his foster home, his foster parents love him and are enjoying his antics and figuring out what makes him tick...they think his growls could be related to some vision issues, at least in one eye. But those issues do not slow him down at all! He will also bark and growl at leaves blowing across the patio, another indication his vision could be the issue. He seems to do fine with other dogs after meeting them and getting to know them. He does not like dog parks, too many strange dogs there! Once used to his foster brothers, he’s been a very good boy, running zoomies around the house and playing. Thunder was very well cared for in his previous home, regular checkups and dentals, and other than his "fuzzy" vision, he is a happy healthy boy.
Thunder will do best in a home with no young children (older children like calm, responsible teens would be fine, more laps to cuddle in). A home with another adult dog with a calm demeanor would be nice. He does like to run and play with his younger foster brother but does not like to share toys, but I ask you again what dachshund does? All this is pretty typical for a doxie! A house with a yard would be best with lots of room for this big boy to play in. If you can offer Thunder a wonderful life long home, please submit an adoption application for him. He is waiting for you! He’s a super sweet and friendly boy and so deserving of someone to call his own again.
Thunder wanted to share his own baby pictures below with you saying, "See! No hoo-baby could ever be cuter!"
4.25.22 Update: Thunder's foster mom reports:
It’s been a joy seeing him become what is probably more himself. He’s way less grumpy now. He’s getting along with the others so much better. He’s running much longer distances after balls. And he can play with the balls without getting into fights with the others, which is amazing. As far as the improved attitude, I’m sure some of that is weight loss and feeling better and some is just being slow to settle in and learn the rules. He’s definitely comfortable now, which means an adopter will probably come along any day! He is a REALLY good boy. We do love him and will be very sad to see him go, when that finally does happen.
