Description:
Precious little Koala and his equally precious tiny brothers, Panda and Polar, were surrendered to ATDR by their owner because they were born with disabilities in what was explained as an "accidental breeding". These little ones are Double Dapple puppies and more often than not Double Dapples come into this world with health conditions because of over breeding in hopes of getting such beautiful puppies as these three. These sweet babies are happy, active little guys and have no idea anything is wrong with them! In the meantime, they are being well cared for and enjoying life in a loving foster home while ATDR has them vetted to determine to what degree they may be visually and/or hearing impaired. Pups like these can thrive in homes experienced with dogs of this nature. Stay tuned as we have more to report about this gorgeous little trio!
Koala is partially sighted, his eyesight isn't as good as other pups and he has slightly impaired hearing, but defintely hears squeaky toys, loud sounds and high pitches. These guys play like crazy so they would love a home with another dog to help show them the ropes. They absolutely don't consider themselves handicapped in any way! No stairs in the home for this little guy please!
1.29.24 Update from Koala's Foster Mom: Our veterinarian says he is totally deaf and blind, but I know he can see some. I tested by putting stuff in his normal paths in the house to see if he would bump into them. He walked around everything, so I know he at least sees shadows. He has gotten better on his potty training and we continue working with him. He prefers to sleep with me or with one of the other cats or dogs now that his brothers have been adopted and are gone. His best buddy is one of my male cats. We are working on crate training...he will initially bark for a little then settles down. He is one precious little one!
