Pepper was picked up in a park by an Animal Shelter back in November, and spent over a month in the shelter. There is not much history that we know for certain about her, but our assumption is that her previous owners came into some hard times and dumped her in a very busy park with the hope that someone would take her home. Unfortunately that person turned out to be the Animal Shelter, where if she had waited much longer would have been put to sleep.
She was the first little face that we saw through a metal caged and shivering. A rescuer pulled her out of the shelter and immediately took her to the vet to have her checked out. Overall she was very healthy, with the exception of some allergies and an upper respiratory infection that have since cleared! She is up to date on vaccines, spayed and ready for her forever home! Pepper hops up and down from the couch with the greatest of ease, and makes herself right at home under a blanket, but snuggling close.
From the foster mom...
Pepper loves receiving attention, and its obvious that in her past she was loved. It would be best if she could go to a home where someone is there most of the day and can give her the attention and love that she deserves. Pepper is always by my side, whether its sitting on the sofa watching TV or cleaning the house, she follows me everywhere. When she is worn out, she will either go to her crate for a nap, or curl under a cozy blanket. She is very familiar with a car ride. She gets very excited to go and will hop right in and sit in the front seat, she loves it. I have a Chihuahua at home that can be a bit snobby, and Pepper has worked her magic and now has a new friend that loves her. She is great with other dogs, and I have witnessed no aggression whatsoever. I am not exposed to any children, so I am not sure how she reacts to them, but I can only assume by her sweet nature that she would be happy to snuggle up next to them.
Pepper is not very vocal unless there is a reason to be alerted. If she hears a neighbor shut their door she will bark to let you know, but quickly quiets when she is asked. Other than that, the only funny noise that she makes is a moan when she gets excited for dinner, or when I get home from work. It is the most pitiful sound, and you can't help but love on her when you hear it.
For the most part she is potty trained if she is taken out on a regular basis she is very well behaved.
Like most Dachshunds, she has a large appetite, and loves dinner, bones and treats. She can sit and shake, but I believe that she would be willing to do much more if she were taught.
I can't stress enough about this dogs happy personality. She is the funniest little dog, and brings so much joy to our home. Finding her a home that will love her, take excellent care of her, and spoil her a bit is all that I could ask for.
