Description:
Angel is a two year old black and tan, Piebald Dachshund that survived not only Hurricane Katrina, but Rita as well. After a 7 foot wall of water washed over the puppy mill where she was living, most of the dogs there drowned. The dogs that survived were then put in what was left of an old barn. Their living conditions were not good in the first place, but after this, their living conditions became deplorable. Angel was living in a dilapidated barn that was barely standing, with the rain coming in, the heat was stifling and the mosquitoes were literally eating them alive. Angel was in a cage, where she was forced to live day in and day out, in her own feces and urine. After complaints, Animal Control was finally called in, and poor starving dogs were confiscated and the owners were charged with animal cruelty..

Angel was taken to a vet, as they noticed she was paralyzed in her rear legs and of course unable to walk. She was diagnosed with a blown disc, and will require back surgery. Angel desperately needs your help, as her surgery is going to cost between $1800 to $2800. Angel is still having deep pain sensation and still tries very hard to wag her little tail. She is sweet. She is young, and she has a will to survive. She deserves a second chance to have a happy healthy life.

Update April 30: Angel is up and moving! She continues to improve and is up about 90% of the time! She enjoys the yard and exploring and is particularly curious about the Brittney Spaniels that live next door! She is receiving weekly acupuncture treatments and is getting stronger every day. She is still wobbly when she gets tired and is already trying to do things that she shouldn't be doing while recuperating! She has been through so much but her little spirit is determined.
